A student sitting in a lecture, diligently taking notes will almost certainly miss one thing the teacher says while writing down another.
Reading a short explanation or watching a video instead, they have the power to pause while they write something down, backup to a particular part they didn’t fully understand the first time, and revisit each concept as they master it.
Self-PacedOver the first few days of the quarter the students fan out. Some shoot ahead because they find the initial concepts quite easy. Others need to hunker down to really grasp them.

Teamwork and ProgressThe team cannot claim completion of a concept until every member has completed the milestone associated with it. This encourages teamwork at the same time that it allows the students to differentiate their own instruction and work at their own pace using resources they have chosen.
|
Technology and Self-DifferentiationStudents are encouraged to do extra work after school or at home using whatever technology is able to better help them master the concepts and self-differentiate. As they do this they keep in mind the questions and transitions of the SAMR model to help them adopt higher degrees of technology and find more meaningful uses of technology than simply using “tech for tech’s sake”.
