Send anyone who agrees to participate in the program an overview of the program, a simple consent form and a document that gives them an opportunity to provide feedback on the student. For example, did the student show up? Was the student punctual? Did the student communicate as expected?
Meet with Employers and Mentors
Once some employers and mentors are on board, arrange for an informational meeting to talk about the goals for the students and the expectations of the employers and mentors. During this time, get your employer and mentor documents signed and open the floor to questions.
Meet with Students
Schedule a meeting with any student who plans to participate in the program. Talk about the school's, employer's and mentor's expectations, such as dress code, promptness, behavior, communication, etc. Review any safety procedures, if relevant, and discuss what the student must do to fulfill the program requirements and earn school credit.
Meet with Parents
Once the employers, mentors and students are on board, reach out to the parents. Create a permission form that parents must sign and return to the school in order for the student to participate. Use this opportunity to address logistical issues like communication, scheduling, transportation and lunch. If there are a lot of students participating in the program, it may be of benefit to schedule an informational meeting to discuss these matters with all parents at the same time.
