Active learning and student engagement are achieved through a wide range of hands-on activities, like individual assignments, discussions, debates, workshops, problem-solving and critical thinking. The teacher helps Concept Presenters define stimulating exercises, focused on the learning objectives, that will capture the students’ interest the minute they walk in the door.
Teacher Enabled
The teacher functions as a guide and coach by:
Ensuring that students have clear objectives and are able to assimilate their knowledge through both individual tests and collaborative efforts.
Talking to every student every day, looking at their work, having them articulate their thinking process, and seeing where they were struggling.
Spending time helping those who really need it
Defining assessments that address the learning objectives and the rubrics defined by the Learning Teams.
Training students on study and note-takingskills so they know how to record information and build memories.
Content Mastery
When students are using an online resource such as reading a short explanation or watching a video, they have the power to pause while they write something down, and backup to a particular part they didn’t fully understand the first time. If they are unable to show they have mastered a concept, they can re-study the resource to pick up on things they missed the first time. Not only that, but they have specific people they can reach out to for help if they are in any way confused.
